Our Community Champions are local volunteers that have a passion for Eastbourne’s environment and want to make a difference. They help the local community engage with the different issues and importantly they help CEPE develop practical solutions for the town. Detail of our current champions are given below. Stephen has worked in the voluntary sector for over 20 years, both in the UK and abroad. He is part of Old Town Community Church and recently helped to establish ‘Here4U’, a drop-in centre in Old Town. He has been part of the Old Town Neighbourhood Management Team. He is also the Vice-Chair of Fairtrade Eastbourne and a Voluntary Sector Representative on the Community Environment Partnership for Eastbourne. Stephen has a background in thermal solar technology and is passionate about promoting efficient energy usage and reducing waste. He is one of a few people in Eastbourne who own and use a solar cooker!
Karen is an active community worker with a desire to address of the basic needs for food, shelter, and clothing. She helped to create Eastbourne’s first Community Garden which has a healthy membership and has recently won an award for its work. Karen is also a keen campaigner and is part of a number of recognised groups within the town to help raise the profile of important issues.
